Trans women who help a man in crisis are attacked, robbed and stones thrown at their homes in Zmir, Turkey.

A group of individuals targeted transgender women as they helped a man in crisis on Bornova Street in Izmir on April 10.
A transgender woman was assaulted and robbed of her wallet and phone during the attack, a trans woman told Gazete Duvar.
Subsequently, the group began throwing stones at transgender women's residences, security camera footage shows.
Authorities confirmed they would investigate the matter.
Bornova Street has long been home to trans women in Izmir and has seen numerous attacks over the years, including from neighborhood guards.
The assault on the night of April 10 occurred when a man suffered an epileptic seizure while the transgender women were outside their homes, a transgender woman told Duvar. When they rushed to help, a group of people started insulting and attacking them.
“They slandered us and attacked us, saying: 'You beat this man.' They started throwing stones at our houses. They threw stones, bottles, sticks, whatever they found,” she said, adding that the group also attacked their friend Açelya, who was coming from a nearby hairdresser.
“When they saw her, they attacked her. She tried to escape, but they caught her, beat her and assaulted her,” she said, noting that there is video evidence of the incident and a complaint has been filed.
Human rights and LGBTI+ rights organizations have seriously sentenced The incident.
“The attack on trans people in Alsancak, Izmir, is the result of state hate speech. For a long time, the threat of expulsion from the living and working spaces of trans people in Alsancak resulted in an environment dangerous work”, declares the Human Rights Association. The LGBTI+ Rights Commission wrote on Twitter following the incident.
LGBTI+ rights in Turkey have come under severe pressure in recent years, with the country currently ranked second in Europe for LGBTI+ rights, according to to the rainbow index.
Bayram Street in Istanbul, where many trans women also live, was recently sealed off and events on the street led to arrests.
At the same time, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan frequently describes LGBTI+ people as “perverts”, “deviants” and “viruses”.
