India has achieved great results under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Pakistan needs a leader like him, a prominent Pakistani-American businessman has said.
Modi's nationalist slogan has worked well for Indians in India and also for those living and working in the US, where they dominate critical areas. When that happens, you know a nation has come to power, Baltimore-based Pakistani-American businessman Sajid Tarar told PTI.
Tarar, a pro-Trump Republican Party leader and founder of American Muslims for Donald Trump, said India has prospered under Prime Minister Modi and it would help Pakistan if a leader like him took over.
Tarar said the rise of a nation is reflected in its lobbying ability in the corridors of power in Washington, and the rise in the number of Indian tech entrepreneurs has strengthened its diaspora.
Pakistan should learn from this example and focus more on education, he said.
The vision of India's first education minister Maulana Abul Kalam Azad and first prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru of a thriving nation with institutions like IITs and IIMs has paid off for the country in the long run. This is what happens when you invest in education with a long-term future in mind, he said.
Tarar moved to the United States in the 1990s and maintains good relations with the Pakistani ruling establishment.
On Trump's presidential bid, Tarar said his return to power would put America back on the path to greatness.
Trump made his fortune before he entered politics, and all he cares about now is making America great again. That's not quite the case with career politicians in the Democratic camp, he said.
Tarar also said that the return of 78-year-old Trump to the presidency would pose a challenge to China as the former president would challenge Beijing's policies in various areas.
On the issue of immigration, Tarar said Trump was not against immigrants but did not agree with the way the US government has handled the issue.
Trump will face Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris, who is of Indian and African descent, in the November 5 general election.
