Kate Middleton is now Britain's most popular royal

The Princess of Wales and her husband are popular across generations

Amid speculation that Kate Middleton's wellbeing is coming to a screeching halt following the revelation that the Princess of Wales has cancer, a new YouGov survey has revealed that she is now the most well-known royal among the public.

Three quarters (76%) of Britons say they have a positive view of the Princess of Wales, up six points since the start of the year.

Likewise, more people have a negative view of the Prince of Wales (21% compared to Kate's 15%), compared to her popular husband William at 73%.

Princess Anne came in third place with 71%. Just 13% had a negative view of the Princess Royal, the lowest figure of any royal we asked.

King Charles himself continues to enjoy widespread popularity, with 63% having a favorable opinion of the king, while 30% have an unfavorable opinion.

Meanwhile, Prince Harry and wife Meghan continue to be unpopular, with 31% having a positive opinion of the former and 26% having a positive opinion of the latter.

Prince Andrew was the least popular, with only 6% of Britons having a positive view of the Duke of York, while 86% had a negative view.

As always, attitudes vary by age, with younger Britons continuing to have more negative views of the royal family. The exception is Prince Harry and Meghan, with young people aged 18 to 24 tending to be more positive than their elders. That doesn't mean young people like the Sussexes. Instead, opinions about the couple are divided. .

The King himself may be unpopular among the youngest generation (only 32% have a positive opinion), but the Princes, and especially the Princess of Wales, are popular with this group. Half (52%) of 18-24 year olds say they like Kate Middleton, while only 21% do not, while 49% like Prince William and 30% dislike him.

In general, 58% of Britons have a positive view of the monarchy, although this varies from 79% among those aged over 65 to 32% among those aged 18 to 24.
